More coronavirus and influenza cases reported in Saxony-Anhalt

The number of reported cases of Covid-19 and influenza has continued to rise in Saxony-Anhalt. The current coronavirus cases mainly affect adults, the State Office for Consumer Protection announced in its weekly report. "In the case of influenza, the proportion of schoolchildren among the cases has increased, which could indicate an imminent start of the flu epidemic." So far, influenza A viruses have predominantly been detected. "There are no indications of particularly severe cases so far," it said.

In the past week, the 47th calendar week, 39 cases of influenza were reported, 13 of them in Magdeburg. The total number of influenza cases recorded since the beginning of September was given as 111. In the same period, 9958 corona infections were recorded. According to the statistics, there were 1968 in the previous week alone. According to the State Office for Consumer Protection, 211 people were treated in hospital due to the illness. 11 of these people were under the age of 18, 172 were aged 60 and over. Eight deaths were recorded in connection with coronavirus infections within a week.

The rise in Covid-19 and influenza cases has sparked concerns about potential health threats, as science works tirelessly to develop effective treatments and vaccines. The increased number of influenza cases among schoolchildren suggests an impending flu epidemic, while Covid-19 is primarily affecting adults in Saxony-Anhalt.
