Willingly alerting the fire department and police, or interfering with their work, led to more convictions in Lower Saxony last year. In 2023, there were a total of 49 convictions, an increase of 13 from the previous year, according to the Ministry of Justice in Hanover.

This number has fluctuated in recent years. For example, in 2018, there were 73 convictions, and in 2019, there were roughly half as many. The ministry stated that the criminal statistics do not distinguish between those who frequently and maliciously alert the police and those who do so with the fire department.

Minister of the Interior Daniela Behrens (SPD) will present a yearly report on firefighters, disaster protection, and emergency services for the past year on Thursday. This will include incidents of violence against emergency services. For instance, emergency services in Lower Saxony often fall victim to attacks during New Year's Eve celebrations.

In some instances, the ministry noted that emergency services, including the police, frequently face acts of violence, such as during New Year's Eve celebrations in Lower Saxony. Additionally, it's essential to note that the police play a significant role in addressing incidents of violence against emergency services, as detailed in the annual report by the Minister of the Interior.
