More arson attacks: Public prosecutor's office investigates
Following a suspected arson attack on a geothermal construction site in the district of Munich, the Munich Public Prosecutor General's Office is investigating suspected extremism. Based on the circumstances of the crime, such a background can be assumed, said a spokesperson for the authority on Friday. However, he did not give any specific details. Investigations are being conducted in all directions.
The investigation concerns the fire at a construction site for a geothermal plant for the extraction of geothermal energy in Perlacher Forst. Insulation had burned on a construction site there in October. The police assumed that the fire was arson and caused 500,000 euros worth of damage. According to the police, an excavator also caught fire on a construction site in Egling (Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen district) on the same night.
Since the beginning of October, the authorities have been investigating several fires at a geothermal plant under construction and a railroad line in Polling (district of Mühldorf am Inn). Here too, the authorities initially assumed an extremist background. According to the Public Prosecutor General's Office, it is also investigating whether there is a connection between the fires.
The investigation into the arson attacks in Upper Bavaria, including the recent fire at the geothermal plant construction site in Perlacher Forst, suggests a link to extremism-related crimes. Due to the increase in such fires, the region has experienced a surge in investigations and potential implications of extremist ideologies.
