Deanery reform - Momentum for pastoral care with full-time and voluntary work

With the deanery reform, the Archdiocese of Munich and Freising wants to give pastoral care more momentum from next year onwards. The aim is to achieve greater networking in pastoral work between the parishes of a deanery as well as between full-time and voluntary workers, said Vicar General Christoph Klingan in Munich on Friday.

Instead of 40, there will then only be 18 deaneries, most of which will correspond to the administrative districts. They will be led by priests from the respective region, who will fill the office with a half-time position and will be the supervisors for the employees in the deanery. There will also be a permanent deanery office.

Armin Schalk, Chairman of the Diocesan Council, spoke of a trusting cooperation between all those involved on an equal footing. At present, the fundamental understanding of synodality is sometimes discussed in a very theoretical manner. The deanery reform is a very successful and practical example of how this can be implemented.
