Legislative assembly in Mainz - Moment of silence for slain police officer.

Hendrik Hering, the President of Rhineland-Palatinate Parliament, referred to the vicious knife attack on police officer Rouven Laur in Mannheim as an assault on society itself. Last Wednesday, during a session in the Mainz parliament, Hering expressed his thoughts while the attendees took a moment to remember the fallen officer.

The incident occurred on Mannheim's market square in late May when a 25-year-old Afghan male targeted five members of the Islam-critical group Pax Europa, along with police officer Rouven Laur. Tragically, the 29-year-old law enforcer eventually succumbed to his injuries, leaving the public in shock.

Hering articulated, "Rouven Laur died defending our liberal democratic order as a police officer. Both Islamist extremists and right-wing extremist enemies of democracy don't represent our values, and those who aim to manipulate Laur's death for their political intentions are not part of our conversation."

Later that day, the Mainz parliament organized two debates related to extremism. One was prompted by the Social Democratic Party (SPD) faction, and the other originated from the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) faction.
