Mobile cardiac catheterization laboratory at the Helios Hanseklinikum Stralsund
Due to ongoing construction work at the Helios Hanseklinikum in Stralsund, cardiac catheter examinations are to be carried out temporarily in a 45 square meter container. The mobile laboratory was set up on Wednesday next to the emergency room of the hospital on the Sund. According to the head of cardiology, Mathias Busch, the container will primarily be used to treat people with cardiac arrhythmia.
The container laboratory will supplement the existing catheter laboratory and is intended as an interim solution. A second permanent laboratory is being built and should be operational by the end of March 2024.
The need for catheter treatments is great, said clinic managing director David Kayser. "There are only a few clinics in Western Pomerania that cover this cardiology spectrum," he explained. The waiting times for treatment should be reduced thanks to the second catheter measuring station. The modern technology in the container will also create additional treatment options.
The mobile laboratory was delivered by a heavy-duty transporter from the UK. A crane lifted the container onto the hospital site on Wednesday. As soon as the second fixed laboratory is completed, the container will be removed again.
The addition of the mobile cardiac catheterization laboratory is beneficial for managing health issues related to diseases like heart diseases, as it provides an extra treatment option during the construction period at the Helios Hanseklinikum. During this interim, individuals requiring catheter treatments for diseases such as arrhythmia will be attended to in the container laboratory, ensuring continuity of care in the hospitals.
