Mixed picture for coronavirus vaccinations
According to the Association of General Practitioners in Hesse, it is currently unclear how many people are being boosted with the adapted Covid-19 vaccine. The feedback from the practices is "very inconsistent", its chairman Christian Sommerbrodt told the German Press Agency. Some colleagues vaccinated a lot, others hardly at all.
A balance can probably only be drawn after some time - when all vaccinations have been reported to the Robert Koch Institute and all invoices have been submitted to the Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians. According to Sommerbrodt, feedback from pharmacies, where doctors order their vaccine doses, tends to indicate "a certain reluctance" among the population.
The situation is different with the flu vaccination, said Sommerbrodt. There is good demand for the influenza vaccination and acceptance among the population is high. The Standing Committee on Vaccination recommends a flu vaccination for the same population group as the Covid-19 booster: for people over 60 years of age and those with previous illnesses.
Despite the inconsistent uptake of the Covid-19 booster vaccine among general practitioners, there's a high demand for the flu vaccination. The Standing Committee on Vaccination recommends both vaccinations for the same population group, particularly those over 60 years old and individuals with pre-existing diseases, which includes people susceptible to other diseases like the common flu.
