Missy Elliott: Mother has never been to my concerts

Hip-hop icon Missy Elliott (52, "Get Ur Freak On") says she has never taken her mother to one of her concerts. "My mother has never seen me perform," the rapper explained on "Good Morning America". "She's seen me on TV, but she's never been to a show because I put a few little words in my mouth that I didn't want her to ever hear."

This Friday, the rapper will officially become the first female rapper ever to be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Then it will be the first time that her mother accompanies her to a performance, explained the five-time Grammy award winner.

Missy Elliott is one of the most successful women in the male-dominated rap and hip-hop business. Her debut album "Supa Dupa Fly" was released in 1997 and songs such as "Get Ur Freak On", "Work It", "The Rain" and "All N My Grill" were big hits. She has also made a name for herself as a producer and label boss and has written songs for stars such as Christina Aguilera, Destiny's Child, Pink, Janet Jackson, Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston.

People are excited for Missy Elliott's Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction, as it will be the first time her mother attends one of her performances, following her words on "Good Morning America." Despite never bringing her mother to her concerts due to explicit lyrics, Missy Elliott has had immense success in the rap and hip-hop industry, with hits like "Get Ur Freak On" and being a prolific producer for artists such as Whitney Houston.
