Investigations - Missing entrepreneur: car discovered in the Netherlands

In the case of the missing businessman from Hüllhorst near Minden, the 62-year-old's car has been discovered in the Netherlands. The wanted SUV was located in the town of Hengelo near Enschede, as the public prosecutor's office and police jointly announced on Friday. A witness who became aware of the car through the wanted poster contacted the homicide squad. The investigators seized the vehicle and initiated the transfer to Germany.

It was still unclear where the missing man might be. It was also still unclear who had last driven the missing man's car. The 62-year-old entrepreneur Jörg D. has been missing since October 18. "The car is an important part of our further work. Extensive forensics work is now underway to shed light on the disappearance of the 62-year-old businessman," said Markus Mertens, head of the homicide squad, in the statement.

The police arrested a 37-year-old man from Enger near Herford on Tuesday of this week, almost seven weeks after the disappearance of the businessman. Investigators have charged him with manslaughter. He is in custody on remand. The suspect had already come to the attention of investigators at an early stage. Suspicions had arisen in connection with the takeover of the company property as a new tenant shortly before the 62-year-old businessman went missing.

According to the investigators, the missing man's cell phone was located in Melle, Lower Saxony, on October 22. His car had been parked there at a sports field in a residential area. One day later, however, the car had disappeared again. The missing man's cell phone had been switched off since October 23. It had last been located in the far south-west of Lower Saxony near the Dutch and North Rhine-Westphalian borders, the authorities had already reported on the case.
