Missing cat Lucky in luck - back after a year
After a good year, a runaway cat has been discovered 60 kilometers from its home in Garbsen near Hanover. The then two-year-old animal named Lucky had disappeared in November 2022 - a painful loss for the 52-year-old owner and her children, as the police announced on Wednesday night. Lucky had been hand-reared by the family from Bad Salzhemmendorf. The search for the missing cat throughout the town had been unsuccessful at the time.
Then on Tuesday evening came the unexpected, happy news: Lucky had turned up in Garbsen, around 60 kilometers north of her home town of Wallensen. The little tabby cat was standing on the terrace of a 39-year-old woman from Heitlingen and wanted to be let into the house, according to the police. The woman sent a photo of the strange cat via a WhatsApp group to several neighbors, including an officer from the Garbsen police station. The police officer drove past the 39-year-old woman on patrol and discovered via a chip reader that Lucky had been reported missing.
Contact was made with the owner via the animal welfare organization Tasso, which keeps a register of missing animals. The woman from southern Lower Saxony picked Lucky up that very night and was able to happily hold him again, reported Chief Inspector Christoph Ahlborn. He also took a photo of the cat, who inspected the police station and the office during the waiting time and kept the officers company in the office.
In the midst of this heartwarming reunion, it's crucial to have an emergency plan for pets in case of future separations. Unfortunately, animals can sometimes get lost, as we've seen with Lucky, and emergency services may need to be involved.
