Crime - Missing businessman: 37-year-old suspected of manslaughter
Almost seven weeks after the disappearance of a businessman (62) from Hüllhorst near Minden, the police have arrested a 37-year-old man from Bielefeld. Investigators have charged him with manslaughter. He was remanded in custody, as the police and public prosecutor's office in Bielefeld announced on Wednesday. The 62-year-old entrepreneur Jörg D. has been missing since October 18. On that day, he is said to have handed over a company building in Hüllhorst to a new tenant.
According to the police, the suspect came to the attention of investigators at an early stage. Suspicions had arisen in connection with the takeover of a company property as a new tenant. It is still unclear where the missing man could be. The missing man's car, a white SUV, is also still being sought.
A police spokeswoman said that the investigation had led to the suspicion that a homicide had been committed. Whether the missing man was actually the victim of a violent crime is still being investigated.
Searches have been carried out, it added. Whether traces of a possible crime scene could have been discovered is still being investigated. The police did not say where the searches were carried out.
The missing man's cell phone was located on October 22 in Melle, Lower Saxony. His car had also been parked at a sports field in a residential area there - properly parked and locked. The car disappeared a day later.
The missing man's cell phone had been switched off since October 23. It was last located in the far southwest of Lower Saxony near the Dutch and North Rhine-Westphalian borders.
