Gender Gap in the Workplace - "Miss Germany" and LinkedIn promote women in job networks

Women are helping their careers and raising awareness about gender equality in the workplace by partnering with the organizers of "Miss Germany" and the digital network LinkedIn. During the "Miss Germany" 2024/25 season, LinkedIn will provide workshops for the candidates to "promote visibility and knowledge sharing on the professional platform." Additionally, networking events will be held to discuss career paths.

"Miss Germany" ignites potential

"The importance of women having the opportunity to connect and support each other is clear," said the current "Miss Germany," Apameh Schönauer, in a statement. "I am convinced that this partnership will help more women achieve their career goals." The 40-year-old, an architect in a leadership position according to the "Miss Germany" homepage, wants to "set an example for many young girls, give them courage, and ignite potential for all of us."

The Miss Germany Studios, based in Oldenburg, have transformed the competition. It's no longer about sending women down a runway in minimal clothing. Instead, talented women with missions are being supported. This season, they're "not looking for the next beauty influencers, but for future DAX CEOs and successful entrepreneurs." The 2025 winner will be crowned again on February 22 in the Europa-Park in Rust near Freiburg.

Men have larger and faster-growing networks than women

The collaboration also highlights the lack of gender equality in the job market. "For professional advancement and ultimately a balanced gender distribution, one's own network is crucial," the partners said. According to LinkedIn data, men typically have larger professional networks than women, and while women's networks are growing, they're not growing as fast as men's.

Career expert Gaby Wasensteiner said: "We at LinkedIn firmly believe that diversity is a fundamental prerequisite for a fair and innovative workplace." "Miss Germany," with its new direction, supports this shift.

The partnership between women participating in "Miss Germany" and LinkedIn is an excellent opportunity for them to expand their professional networks, given that research shows men often have larger and faster-growing networks than women. This collaboration is expected to help close the gender gap in networking and career advancement.

The workshops provided by LinkedIn during the "Miss Germany" 2024/25 season will empower a new generation of women, as they learn how to use the professional platform to promote their visibility and share knowledge, ensuring they are well-equipped to pursue successful careers, just like the talented women who have transformatively impacted the competition in Oldenburg.
