Mourning for accident victim - Minute's silence after the accidental death of a Hochbahn employee
After the fatal accident at Hamburg's Jungfernstieg, the employees of Hochbahn observed a moment of silence for their deceased colleague. According to the transportation company, all buses and U-Bahns that were at a halt at that time, around 11:00 AM on Thursday, remained stationary for a minute.
The passengers were informed via announcements. "Hochbahn mourns. One of our colleagues passed away tragically in a traffic accident at Jungfernstieg on Tuesday," the message read. On Tuesday morning, an 18-year-old driving a car with approximately 600 PS of power crashed over a pedestrian walkway at Jungfernstieg and rammed into a transporter in front of a Sparkassenfiliale. Due to the force of the impact, the transporter was propelled forward and struck a pedestrian. The 39-year-old U-Bahn driver and family man succumbed to his severe injuries at the hospital later that day.
