Mourning for accident victim - Minute's silence after the accidental death of a Hochbahn employee

After the fatal accident at Hamburg's Jungfernstieg, the employees of Hochbahn observed a moment of silence for their deceased colleague. According to the transportation company, all buses and U-Bahns that were at a halt at that time, around 11:00 AM on Thursday, remained stationary for a minute.

The passengers were informed via announcements. "Hochbahn mourns. One of our colleagues passed away tragically in a traffic accident at Jungfernstieg on Tuesday," the message read. "In memory of this event, we will now pause and pay tribute to him with a moment of silence. We also ask that you join us in this moment of reflection. Our thoughts are with his family and all those left behind."

On Tuesday morning, an 18-year-old driving a car with approximately 600 PS of power crashed over a pedestrian walkway at Jungfernstieg and rammed into a transporter in front of a Sparkassenfiliale. Due to the force of the impact, the transporter was propelled forward and struck a pedestrian. The 39-year-old U-Bahn driver and family man succumbed to his severe injuries at the hospital later that day.

The tragic accident on Jungfernstieg was declared an accidental death, urging heightened safety measures for elevated railroads and traffic. The community of Hamburg expressed their condolences, recognizing the minute of silence as a solemn commemoration for the fallen U-Bahn driver. This accident served as a grim reminder of the risks associated with traffic, causing concerns and discussions among the city's residents.
