Police - Ministry of the Interior: New management for central police directorate

The Central Police Directorate of Lower Saxony (ZPD) is to be given a new head. Roger Fladung, previously Vice President of the Braunschweig Police Directorate, is to be entrusted with the management of the department, as announced by the Ministry of the Interior in Hanover on Thursday. Fladung will initially be seconded to the ZPD.

Fladung's predecessor was relieved of his duties by the Ministry of the Interior in August and assigned a new task at the police academy. He defended himself against the move in court. At the beginning of October, the Hanover Administrative Court ruled in summary proceedings that this secondment was unlawful. According to earlier information from the ministry, the background to the case was an investigation into indications of misconduct in the performance of management duties.

Together with the State Police Headquarters, the regional police directorates, the State Criminal Police Office and the Police Academy, the ZPD represents the Lower Saxony Police. More than 2000 people work for the ZPD. The headquarters are in Hanover, but there are other locations in the state.

Fladung's new role as head of the Central Police Directorate (ZPD) is located in Hanover, the capital of Lower Saxony's Ministry of the Interior. The Braunschweig Police Directorate, where Fladung previously served, is one of the regional police directorates under the auspices of the Lower Saxony Police, just like the ZPD. The decision to assign Fladung to the ZPD was made by the same Ministry of the Interior that had previously investigated allegations of misconduct towards a former ZPD head.
