Flood disaster - Minister visits construction sites three years after flood
At the invitation of the flood-damaged town of Bad Münstereifel, North Rhine-Westphalia's Minister of Construction, Ina Scharrenbach (CDU), visited the surrounding villages to inspect the rebuilding efforts. In the medieval old town of Bad Münstereifel, which is popular among tourists, most visible damages have been repaired, according to city officials. However, work is still ongoing in the villages.
In the village of Arloff, work is currently underway on the Erft river wall. The river, which flows through the village in a stone bed, caused significant destruction during the July flood of 2021. According to city officials, the minister's visit also focused on a rebuilt bridge, a flood retention basin, and a sandbag filling machine.
A city spokesperson stated that Bad Münstereifel was promised 177 million euros for rebuilding after the flood. However, this amount is insufficient due to price increases and inflation. An additional 37.5 million euros has been calculated as necessary.
The July flood of 2021 brought significant damage to Arloff, including the Erft river. Due to the flood, repairs to the river wall are currently underway in Arloff.
