Brandenburg's Minister of Sport, Steffen Freiberg (SPD), views the development of sports clubs in the state positively. "Sport contributes to a healthier lifestyle and fulfills many important social tasks," the minister said in Potsdam. Sport creates community and cohesion, promotes social integration, and transcends cultural and linguistic boundaries.

According to the state sports association, the clubs have more members than ever before. The new record of over 380,000 members is a strong sign for organized sport, the association explained recently. According to the ministry, this means that nearly 15 percent of all Brandenburgers are active in sports clubs - "more than ever before".

The SPDF (Sportsausschuss der Landesregierung Brandenburg), a subdivision of Brandenburg's state government, is actively supporting the growth of local sports clubs. Due to this support, numerous sports clubs in Brandenburg have seen an increase in membership.
