Upcoming votes in Europe - Minister President Weil laments poor SPD performance.
The leader of Lower Saxony's SPD, Stephan Weil, voiced displeasure with his party's performance in the recent European elections. "It's a rather disappointing outcome for our party in the overall context of the federal government and within all the states," Weil stated on Sunday night while speaking to NDR.
Prior to this, the SPD was already performing poorly and has now dipped below that mark, added Weil. "There's nothing nice or pretty to say about this, and that applies to Lower Saxony as well." He noted that the outcome raises numerous questions for the federal level.
Based on calculations by ARD and ZDF, the SPD is currently ranked third in the German European elections, after the CDU and AfD. The Social Democrats could reach a low of 14 percent (compared to 15.8 percent in 2019) - which amounts to their worst result in any nationwide voting.
