Government - Minister President Dreyer writes to Federal Chancellor Scholz
Rhineland-Palatinate's Minister President Malu Dreyer (SPD) is pressing for the aid and support measures agreed with the federal government for the victims of the flood disaster in the Ahr valley. "I firmly assume that, despite the consequences of the Federal Constitutional Court's ruling, the federal government will fulfill its obligations under the 2021 Reconstruction Aid Fund Establishment Act and ensure the liquidity of the reconstruction aid fund through allocations from the federal budget," wrote the head of government in a letter to Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD).
It is important to dispel any uncertainty among the people in the affected regions. Therefore, the federal government should once again make it clear that the federal government will also fulfill its obligations in the coming years, Dreyer explained in the letter on Wednesday, according to the State Chancellery. There were 135 deaths in the Ahr flood disaster around two and a half years ago.
With the Reconstruction Assistance Fund Establishment Act 2021, the federal and state governments had jointly created an instrument and a perspective for sustainable reconstruction for those affected after the flood disaster in Rhineland-Palatinate and North Rhine-Westphalia in July 2021. "I and the people of Rhineland-Palatinate are very grateful to you and the others involved for this solidarity and support," Dreyer wrote to Scholz.
