Awards - Minister of the Interior awards prize for civil courage
Interior Minister Michael Ebling (SPD) has honored several people in Rhineland-Palatinate with an award for civil courage for courageous intervention. "Civil courage means standing up for what is right at crucial moments," emphasized the Minister on Tuesday in Mainz. "It often manifests itself in courageous action to help others and prevent greater suffering."
The prize is awarded as part of the "Those who do nothing, join in" campaign to people who have prevented a crime or assisted victims of crime through their exceptional and courageous intervention in dangerous situations. The award winners received a certificate, a sculpture and a cash prize.
One woman from Mainz who was awarded the prize noticed that a man was trying to evade a police check and was resisting. She intervened and supported the plainclothes officers, so that the man was ultimately restrained. During the subsequent search, it turned out that the perpetrator had a balaclava, black gloves and a sharp firearm with him.
Another prizewinner from Alzey had received a so-called shock call and had been asked to pay 45,000 euros bail for his daughter, who had apparently caused a fatal car accident. He managed to alert the police via his neighbor's phone. In several conversations with the perpetrators, the man finally succeeded in agreeing with the police to hand over the bail money. The police were then able to arrest one of the perpetrators in a parking lot near Bad Kreuznach.
