Emergency preparedness strategies - Minister of the Environment Meyer unveils flood prevention strategies.

When floods struck at the start of the year, the dikes in Lower Saxony and Bremen withstood the onslaught - thanks to the assistance of 120,000 volunteers. Christian Meyer, the State Minister for the Environment (Greens), will discuss these tense events on Monday (11:30 am) and outline the consequences of the so-called Christmas flood. Despite preventing more severe flooding, damages exceeded one hundred million euros, the Ministry of Environment reported.

As per climate forecasts, we can expect increased instances of heavy rain and elevated water levels in the future. In response to this, Meyer plans to fund improvements in both technical and natural flood protection in the province. Adding to this, the state seeks to bolster its organizational and personal preparedness for flood control.

Meyer will share more details along with the Director of the Lower Saxony State Office for Water Management, Coastal Protection, and Nature Conservation (NLWKN), Anne Rickmeyer, at an event in Hanover.
