Minister honors four university lecturers with teaching award
On Monday, four university lecturers were awarded the Saxon Teaching Prize for their innovative knowledge transfer. Sylvia Jurchen from Chemnitz University of Technology, Torsten Gonschorek from the Dresden University of Applied Sciences, Olaf Katzer from the Carl Maria von Weber University of Music Dresden and Daniel Tillich from the Dresden Academy of Studies each received the 10,000 euro prize.
Universities are often judged by their research performance, but excellent academic teaching is just as important for our society, said Science Minister Sebastian Gemkow. The CDU politician said of the award winners: "They are not only a benefit for their students, but also have an exemplary impact on the university system with their commitment."
The Saxon Teaching Prize is aimed at Saxon universities and the Berufsakademie Sachsen and is awarded every two years. A nine-member jury selected the award winners.
This recognition further underscores the significance of outstanding teaching in shaping the future of universities. The four awardees, hailing from Universities of Technology, Applied Sciences, Music, and Studies, will undoubtedly inspire future educators in their respective institutions.
