Agriculture - Minister holds out prospect of funding for barn conversion

Lower Saxony's Agriculture Minister Miriam Staudte has held out the prospect of additional funding for barn conversions. "Farmers who reduce the number of fattening places will receive preferential AFP funding," said the Green politician in an interview with the Oldenburg newspaper "Nordwest-Zeitung" (Saturday).

Under the so-called Agricultural Investment Promotion Program (AFP), the states of Lower Saxony and Bremen grant subsidies to agricultural businesses for certain investments, such as in animal-friendly stables, environmental and climate protection.

The state is also making an additional 6.5 million euros available for farmers who want to build up another mainstay for their business, said Staudte. According to the minister, applications can be submitted as early as 2024 and the funds will then start flowing in 2025.
