Minister Faeser awards Sports Sustainability Prize
How can the sports sector become more sustainable? Federal Minister of the Interior Nancy Faeser (SPD) will award the German Sustainability Award for Sport to showcase projects at a gala in Düsseldorf on Friday. The prize will be awarded for the first time in the sport category. The setting is the two-day German Sustainability Day congress, which ends on Friday.
The new sports prize will be awarded in six categories. The aim is to recognize exemplary sustainability in clubs, sports facilities and events. Former Formula 1 racing driver Sebastian Vettel will receive an honorary award.
For the first time, the German Sustainability Award will also be presented in the International category. German companies that contribute to the implementation of the United Nations' sustainability goals with partners from a developing or emerging country will be honored.
Since 2008, the German Sustainability Award has been presented to companies that align their business model with sustainability. The annual, non-endowed award is presented by the German Sustainability Award Foundation in cooperation with the German government, municipal umbrella organizations and business associations. Numerous companies had already received awards on Thursday.
The German Sustainability Award for Sport aims to highlight sustainable practices in clubs, facilities, and events, contributing to a more eco-friendly sports sector. Minister Faeser's awards ceremony at the German Sustainability Day conferences will also focus on discussing economic policies that can foster climate-friendly initiatives in the sports sector.
