Minister Faeser Advocates for Simplified Deportation Procedures Following Terror Praise

Government official responses to online hate speech surged following recent acts of terrorism, such as the Hamas attack on Israel and the deadly police officer stabbing in Mannheim. Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) announced legislative changes in light of the Mannheim attack, as stated in a government press release.

The German government claims that "Islamists have endorsed, celebrated, and glorified these terroristic actions" on the internet. This online endorsement of terrorism contributes to a culture of violence that may embolden extremists and perpetrators to perform further violent acts. As a result, German security concerns are prioritized over those of the perpetrators in such instances.

According to the proposed amendment, convictions from the courts should not be required for expulsion and deportation. Additionally, a new "case group for significant expulsion interest" should be established within the Interior Ministry.
