Staffing deficiency - Minister emphasizes reinforcing home care assistance.

"The minister stated that Brandenburg has the highest number of care-dependent individuals living at home among all federal states in Germany. If the care needs in Brandenburg were the same as the national average, an extra 5,000 caregivers would be needed right now. Since 2020, the state has implemented the 'Pact for Care' to support care-dependent individuals locally by setting up advisory centers and fostering professional development. This program has led to the creation of an additional 315 home care and 54 short-term care spots.

The demand for care in Brandenburg has quickly escalated due to demographic changes. By 2021, there were approximately 185,000 people in need of care in the region. This starkly contrasts with the figures from 2009, wherein there were merely about 85,000 such individuals. Currently, 87% of all these people in Brandenburg receive in-home care - a proportion that's the highest across the nation, according to a Health Ministry spokesperson."

Despite the ongoing staff shortage in nursing professions, Ursula Nonnemacher, the Brandenburg Minister for Social Affairs, emphasized the importance of reinforcing home care assistance. The high number of care-dependent individuals in Brandenburg, with a need for additional 5,000 caregivers if the care needs were at the national average, necessitates immediate attention. This underscores the necessity for continuous support and professional development, as demonstrated by the 'Pact for Care' implemented in 2020, resulting in additional home care and short-term care spots. However, the demand for care in Brandenburg, escalated by demographic changes, remains significantly high, with approximately 185,000 people in need of care by 2021, making it a pressing concern for the future.
