Nature - Minister Eder informs about the state of the forest
Climate change, heat and drought are causing problems for forests in Rhineland-Palatinate. This is one of the key findings of the new forest condition report for Rhineland-Palatinate, which Environment Minister Katrin Eder (Greens) will present in detail this Friday in Mainz together with experts from the Research Institute of Forest Ecology and Forestry.
According to the Ministry, more than 3,600 trees were assessed at 152 locations in the state for the survey on the condition of the trees between the Westerwald and Southern Palatinate - the condition of the tree crowns and the forest floor were examined, for example. The previous year's report had reported an unchanged high level of damage, with the proportion of damaged trees at 81 percent.
