Frankfurt (Oder) - Millions in funding for the conversion of the movie theater
The Brandenburg Ministry of Culture is providing 2.2 million euros in funding for the conversion of the former movie theater in Frankfurt (Oder). The funding for this year and the next two years will be provided for planning costs, as the city administration announced on Monday. According to the announcement, the state and federal governments will each provide 11.5 million euros for the planned conversion. The former cinema is to become an art museum - including a museum café.
According to the city administration, the "Lichtspieltheater der Jugend" was built at the beginning of the 20th century as the first cinema in Frankfurt (Oder). The building, which had been damaged by the war, was rebuilt in 1954 before being closed for the time being in 1998. Four years ago, the city took over the listed building after it had been vacant for a long time.
