Mansfeld-South Harz - Millions in funding for fast internet

In the district of Mansfeld-Südharz in southern Saxony-Anhalt, the expansion of the infrastructure for high-speed internet is making further progress. The federal and state governments are funding the gigabit expansion with a total of around 36 million euros, as the district announced on Tuesday when the funding notification was handed over. Accordingly, 25.15 million euros will be provided by the federal government and 10.8 million euros by the state.

According to its own information, the district of Mansfeld-Südharz completed its first subsidized Internet expansion last year. The next expansion stage is to be completed by 2025, it said. The funding that has now been promised is to be used for the third expansion phase - the main aim is to provide access to smaller villages. The focus is also on companies outside of already developed commercial areas.

According to the Ministry of Infrastructure and Digital Affairs, all households and companies in the state should have a correspondingly fast internet connection by 2030. Currently, just over 30 percent of households and companies in Saxony-Anhalt have gigabit access - although the distribution varies greatly.
