Million-dollar damage in Fire in Konstanz Old Town
According to the report, a resident had reported smoke. Upon arrival of the first forces from Police and Fire Department, parts of the residential and commercial building had already been in full blaze. The surrounding houses were evacuated. The Police set up a assembly point, while the city organized accommodation for the evacuees in other buildings.
The firefighting efforts continued throughout Thursday. Over 200 forces from Fire Department, Police, Ambulance Service, Technical Aid and city departments were in action. In addition, Fire Department personnel from the neighboring Switzerland supported the operation. Once it was possible to enter the fire scene, the Police were to take over the investigations into the cause of the fire, it was stated.
The fire, estimated to cause million-dollar damage, had originated from an unspecified source within the Old Town's iconic Brand building in Constanz, Baden-Württemberg. The intense blaze threatened to spread to adjacent heritage structures, prompting a call for reinforcements from the nearby Fire Department and police forces. Luckily, no fatalities were reported, but the million-height structure took significant damage.
