Armed Forces - Military airport's infrastructure development progressing according to plan
The leaders of Saxony-Anhalt and Brandenburg anticipate a surge in population due to the expansion of their military base. Last year, Brandenburg's head of government, Dietmar Woidke (SPD), predicted that 1,000 to 1,200 newcomers would move to the area during a group gathering. Meanwhile, Saxony-Anhalt's Reiner Haseloff (CDU) estimated that the number might even be higher.
Situated on the border of Saxony-Anhalt and Brandenburg, the Holzdorf military airfield is being developed into one of Germany's biggest Bundeswehr military bases. The federal government intends to procure the Arrow 3 air defense system from Israel, allowing for the interception of rockets at high altitudes. Additionally, the airfield will be home to 47 of the Bundeswehr's 60 new heavy transport helicopters. The projected investments could reach up to 700 million euros.
