Midwives practice complex births and emergencies in the lab
A simulation laboratory has been created in Osnabrück to improve the training of midwives. The university now has an important place for practical studies, said President Andreas Bertram at the opening on Monday. The university invested 400,000 euros in the so-called Skills Lab, with the Lower Saxony Ministry of Science contributing around 500,000 euros.
According to the university, the facility includes three demo rooms, two simulation classrooms and an apartment. With the help of computer-controlled full-body simulators, even very complex birth scenarios and emergencies can be simulated. From the university's point of view, this is a milestone in the process of academizing the healthcare professions and improving care in the region.
The investment in the Skills Lab has the potential to enhance education in medicine, particularly for midwives, empowering them to better manage complex births and emergencies. Encouragingly, this development can contribute to advancing women's healthcare in the region.
