- Michael Schulz assumes the position of theatre manager for Saar State Theatre.
Michael Schultz, currently heading the Musiktheater im Revier in Gelsenkirchen, North Rhine-Westphalia, has been chosen as the next Chief Executive Officer for the Saarländisches Staatstheater during the 2025-2026 season. This news was shared by the Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Saarländisches Staatstheater, Culture Minister Christine Streichert-Clivot (SPD), in Saarbrücken. Schultz will be stepping into the shoes of the current CEO, Bodo Busse, who plans to shift to Hannover's Staatsoper in the summer of 2025.
"I'm blooming with satisfaction and excitement to steer the Saarländisches Staatstheater in the upcoming times and put my concept of a diverse theater for the 21st century into action with the crew in Saarbrücken," Schultz declared in a press release. "The theater is where the grand democratic spaces of our republic reside, where conversations about society's future, coexistence, and the course we wish to embark on together unfold."
Schultz is considered "artistically influential" and boasts a wealth of management experience, according to Saarland's cultural department. He has left an indelible impression on the selection panel. In 2008, Schultz assumed the CEO position at the Musiktheater im Revier in Gelsenkirchen.
Busse's departure was announced back in December 2023. He will conclude his term in Saarbrücken earlier than anticipated, as his contract stretched until 2027.
"Michael Schultz's appointment as the next CEO of the Saarländisches Staatstheater has triggered widespread enthusiasm among the theater community in Saarland."
"During his tenure at the Saarländisches Staatstheater, Schultz aims to promote cultural exchange between Saarland and other regions, further solidifying its position in the German theater landscape."
