Meyer: Need security for hydrogen projects

Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania's Minister of Economics Reinhard Meyer (SPD) expects the Federal Minister of Economics to provide clarity on the financing of hydrogen projects in the north-east in the near future. The SPD politician said on Monday after consultations between the federal and state economics and energy ministers in Berlin that a clear signal was needed for the states' settlement projects, in MV in particular for IPCEI funding for the hydrogen economy.

"As the federal states, we have made it clear to the Federal Minister where we see the priorities. Now it is important that we come together for another round before the holidays and find reliable solutions before the end of the year," emphasized Meyer.

The federal states had pointed out that there should now be no greyhound race for individual projects, but that the goal must be fundamental economic stabilization. It is important that the supplementary budget for 2023 comes quickly now. "The crucial question going forward is then: How can the budget for 2024 be set up and justified with legal certainty?" continued Meyer.

He credited Federal Economics Minister Robert Habeck (Greens) for seeking dialog with the federal states. "I would expect the same from the Federal Minister of Transport. After all, this is about the major issues of rail and electromobility, among others, where there are still many uncertainties," he emphasized.

The Federal Constitutional Court had declared a reallocation of 60 billion euros in the 2021 budget to be unconstitutional. The federal government is therefore not allowed to use funds intended to combat the coronavirus crisis for climate protection. This could have a major impact on the Climate and Transformation Fund.

Meyer suggested that the Federal Minister should provide clear economic policy for financing household-related hydrogen projects in the north-east, as these projects are crucial for the states' settlement plans, particularly in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. The upcoming discussions before the holidays are crucial for finding reliable solutions to secure funding, ensuring the stability of the German economy.
