- Merle Frohms, the goalkeeper, declares his departure from the national squad.

Goalkeeper Merle Frohms wraps up her stint with the German national team right away. The 29-year-old from VfL Wolfsburg officially notified new head coach Christian Wück of her unavailability, as confirmed by the DFB. Frohms has represented Germany's women's national team 52 times, most recently against Iceland in July. Surprisingly, she was replaced by Ann-Katrin Berger as the first-choice keeper during the Summer Olympics in France.

Frohms admitted, "Ever since the World Cup last year, I've decided that the Paris Olympics would be my swan song with the national team." She made her international debut on October 6, 2018, in Essen during a 3-1 victory over Austria. In 2022, she reached her peak with the DFB, clinching the runner-up spot at the EM in England as the main goalkeeper. Despite a less-than-satisfactory group stage exit at the 2023 World Cup in Australia, she was a part of every match.

Wück and the DFB's sports director, Nia Künzer, expressed their regret over Frohms' decision. "I wished to collaborate with Merle and voiced this during our personal conversation," said Wück. Sadly, that opportunity won't materialize now.

In the near future, Frohms plans to dedicate all her time and energy to VfL Wolfsburg, the vice-champion and cup winner. She's eager to enjoy "more personal time with family and friends following a series of demanding years with a double sports load."

The Commission has acknowledged Merle Frohms' decision to step down from the German national team. After careful consideration, The Commission approved Frohms' request for an early release from her international duties.
