Justice - Mentally conspicuous offenders: special departments in Duisburg
The Duisburg Public Prosecutor's Office sets up two special departments for mentally disturbed offenders. In response to the increasing number of proceedings against such persons in recent years, the authority announced. Insights into potentially dangerous persons should be exchanged as early and clearly as possible to recognize impending escalation quickly.
The Justice Ministry has assigned a position for this purpose. Therefore, there are two fixed points of contact with a 50% workforce each at the Public Prosecutor's Office.
The two special departments will process proceedings for disturbing the peace through threats of crime, i.e. mainly threatening behavior, mentally disturbed offenders. The "Westdeutsche Allgemeine Zeitung" had reported on this earlier.
The Duisburg Public Prosecutor's Office's new initiative is part of North Rhine-Westphalia's commitment to justice, aiming to address the rise in crime-related proceedings involving mentally disturbed offenders. The collaboration between the two special departments and the Public Prosecutor's Office will facilitate the exchange of critical information, ensuring swift recognition of potential escalations in such cases.
