Statistics - Mental illness: Young people often in hospital

Children and young adults in Saxony-Anhalt were frequently treated in hospital for mental illnesses and behavioral disorders last year. According to the State Statistical Office, 5607 hospital treatments for mental illnesses of children and young adults were counted. This was the most common cause of hospitalization.

According to the report, 29,552 hospital patients aged 10 to under 25 were treated as inpatients last year. Among adults aged 25 and over, 4.9 percent of 449,995 hospital treatments were for mental illnesses and behavioral disorders. According to the statistics office, girls and young women were treated for mental illnesses or behavioral disorders slightly more often (54 percent) than boys and young men.
