People - "Men of the Year" gala in Berlin

A flurry of flashbulbs, stars and a diverse wardrobe: big names from the worlds of film, entertainment, fashion, music, sport and art came together in Berlin for the 25th "Men of the Year" gala of the German magazine "GQ". The men's style magazine "GQ", which is published in Munich, wanted to honor personalities in several categories at a gala dinner on Thursday evening. While the dress code used to be "Black Tie" (tuxedo or evening dress), this time it was "Modern Red Carpet", which meant more individual expression.

Actor Louis Hofmann was up for the award as "Actor of the Year", football star Colin Kaepernick - one of the most famous quarterbacks and a symbolic figure of the anti-racism movement in the USA due to a protest gesture - as "Athlete of the Year" and Ludovic de Saint Sernin as "Breakthrough Designer of the Year".

In recent years, the gala has evolved away from a purely male prize: the award list also included performance artist Marina Abramović ("Art Icon of the Year") and Erykah Badu ("Music Icon of the Year").

Celebrities such as German rapper Kelvyn Colt and influencer Rabea Schif could be seen in advance on the entrance carpet at the event location The Tunnel (a subway tunnel at Potsdamer Platz that never went into operation).

The international magazine published by Condé Nast ("Vogue", "Glamour") also awards Men and People of the Year in other countries.

The "Glamour" media brand also presented the "Women of the Year Award" for the first time in Germany in 2023. The ten winners at the beginning of November included musician Katja Krasavice, actress Florence Kasumba, climate activist Luisa Neubauer, Green Party leader Ricarda Lang and activist and author Düzen Tekkal.
