Parliament - Members of parliament to be checked for Stasi activities
The state parliament of Saxony-Anhalt will debate master craftsman training and integration in schools on Wednesday. In addition, a committee is to be set up to investigate members of parliament for any activity for the GDR State Security Service. After the decision was planned a few months ago and postponed at short notice, representatives of the black-red-yellow coalition as well as the Greens and AfD have now announced their approval in parliament in advance.
In the GDR, the Stasi - short for the Ministry for State Security - was both an intelligence service and secret police force in the service of the SED. It monitored broad sections of the population and harassed critics of the system.
