Melsungen's handball players lead the table for the time being

MT Melsungen has taken over the lead in the German Handball League, at least until Sunday. The club from Hesse beat newly promoted ThSV Eisenach 27:24 (13:9) on Friday to move to the top of the table with 22:6 points. Champions League winners SC Magdeburg and Füchse Berlin both have 21:3 points and can overtake Melsungen at the weekend.

The visitors benefited in particular from an excellent 7:1 run in the opening spell to record their eleventh win of the season. Eisenach's attacking play did not work at all at first. The home side had scored just two goals after twelve minutes. The home side had particular problems with the flowing counter-attacks by Melsungen's international Timo Kastening. The right winger was the best scorer of the game with eight goals.

The club from Hesse then shifted down a gear and made more technical mistakes. As a result, Eisenach was able to reduce the deficit to two goals (19:21). Things became turbulent in the final spell. Kastening was elbowed in the face by opponent Peter Walz, had to be treated and left the court with a thick bandage around his head. The accident made no difference to the victory.

MT Melsungen's dominance in the Bundesliga Handball league continues, as they currently hold the top spot with 22:6 points after their win against ThSV Eisenach.SC Magdeburg and Füchse Berlin, both with 21:3 points, have the opportunity to overtake Melsungen in the Bundesliga this weekend.
