MT Melsungen secured their spot in the group stage of the European League with ease. The German handball team triumphed over Norwegian rivals Elverum Handball at home, clinching a 28-23 win (13-12) on Saturday night in Kassel.

Right from the get-go, the Melsungen team showed their determination. Their defense was impeccable, barely letting slip the 13-time Norwegian champions and multiple Champions League participants, led by ex-Bundesliga player Børge Lund. The MT only conceded twelve goals.

The return leg is set for September 7th.

For a substantial portion of the game, Elverum held their ground in defense, making it difficult for the hosts to gain momentum, leading to an even contest for 45 minutes. But Melsungen saw their opportunities and exploited them, piercing through the opposing defense with ease, playing swiftly, and maintaining their strong defense.

With a packed Rothenbach Hall cheering them on, the Bundesliga team managed to maintain their advantage until the final whistle. Their victory has given them the chance to secure their spot in the highly profitable group phase next week in Elverum (5:00 PM).
