Meeting of interior ministers: Trade union wants more support

The Middle East war is having a direct impact on Germany in the form of demonstrations, riots and anti-Semitism. In addition to schools, the police are also complaining about additional burdens.

Domestic policy - Meeting of interior ministers: Trade union wants more support

Before the start of the Conference of Interior Ministers (IMK), the Berlin Police Union (GdP) has called for more support for the capital. The challenges and operational situations in Berlin must become "a clearer focus of the discussions" at the IMK. There is "no event on this globe that does not have a prompt impact on the security situation in the capital", said GdP regional head Stephan Weh on Wednesday.

Berlin has by far the highest and most complex deployment schedule for demonstrations, attracts refugees in particular and also has six European Championship matches and major fan events next summer. What is needed is a uniform national police and assembly law and significantly more support for the Berlin police from the other federal states.

The terrorist attack by the Palestinian Hamas on Israel, the subsequent war and the effects on Germany are among the central topics of the Conference of Interior Ministers (IMK) starting this Wednesday in Berlin. The demonstrations by Palestinian groups and the right of assembly will also be on the agenda.

Other topics at the three-day autumn conference in a hotel in Berlin-Lichtenberg, which Berlin is chairing this year, include refugee numbers and border controls.

"For me, the central topic of this conference of interior ministers is to continue to work together against the increasing threat of Islamist terrorism and against the repugnant hatred towards Jews and Israel," said Federal Interior Minister Nancy Faeser (SPD) to the news portal "T-Online".

At the same time, she emphasized that there is an increased threat situation, particularly from Islamist terrorism. "Especially now, we must keep a close eye on Islamist threats and stop further radicalization processes."
