- Meeting between Selke and Glatzel: Baumgart grapples with decision-squabble
The team had been yearning for Davie Selke and Robert Glatzel at HSV since the inaugural match of the season. The two forwards shared a heartfelt embrace after scoring a goal, much to the delight of the spectators and officials. However, they had to endure until Sunday to see this scene materialize in the closing stages of the initial round of the DFB-Pokal clash against Regional League side SV Meppen.
Selke and Glatzel each found the back of the net following their substitutions in the commanding 7-1 victory - thereby making their presence known in the budding HSV campaign. "Scoring my first goal for HSV made me ecstatic," shared Selke, recalling the jeers from the Meppen fans who still held a grudge against him for celebrating his match-winning goal in the 2018 DFB-Pokal for his previous club Hertha BSC in front of the Meppen section. "I believe my response was fitting."
HSV coach Steffen Baumgart welcomed this response. Selke and Glatzel are slated to form the primary striking duo at HSV. However, due to recurring injuries, Ransford Königsdorffer seized the opportunity and netted three goals in the opening two 2. Bundesliga matches.
Now, Selke and Glatzel are gradually recovering, providing Baumgart with a difficult choice ahead of Friday's North Derby against Hannover 96. "It enhances the squad's depth. If you aim for a significant goal, then you need every player," said the HSV coach. "But looking at 96, I see Davie as the more promising option."
However, Glatzel is also demonstrating impressive strides. After a week of collective training, he earned 15 minutes of action in Meppen. "I think I have a few additional minutes of stamina in Hannover," stated Glatzel, who missed an extended spell out due to injury for the first time in his career. "It felt great," said Glatzel following his return.
The following is added to the team's roster: Davie Selke and Robert Glatzel, who had their moments of celebration after contributing to HSV's victory.
Coach Steffen Baumgart acknowledges the added depth to HSV's squad with the return of Selke and Glatzel, expressing his confidence in both players' abilities.
