Covid-19 - Media: Corona infections in Saxony-Anhalt rising rapidly

According to a newspaper report, the number of coronavirus infections in Saxony-Anhalt is rising rapidly. The number of new infections per week has more than doubled since the end of October, reported the Halle-based "Mitteldeutsche Zeitung" (Thursday). The State Office for Consumer Protection recently reported 1968 new infections per week. At the end of October, this figure was 917.

According to the Federal Ministry of Health's pandemic radar, the incidence, i.e. the number of infections per 100,000 inhabitants, is currently 65 - the highest in Germany, the newspaper reported. Saxony follows with an incidence of 53, while the German average is 28.

Virologist Klaus Stöhr, who has worked for the World Health Organization, gives the all-clear. "Winter is the time for respiratory diseases," he told the newspaper. Overall, the situation is almost comparable to before the pandemic. According to Stöhr, the rising numbers can be explained by the fact that patients are being tested for coronavirus in doctors' surgeries, but not for other pathogens such as the influenza virus.
