- Mecklenburg-Vorpommern is hosting a week of driver controls

The driver control week began this morning as announced in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. A spokesperson for the police confirmed this on request. In Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, drivers will be subject to increased checks until Sunday.

The state's interior minister, Christian Pegel (SPD), had previously stated: "Excessive speed is still one of the main causes of accidents on the roads of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania." Last year, there was a traffic accident with personal injury every ten hours where the cause was excessive speed.

The spokesperson also mentioned that drivers caught speeding will face strict penalties, enforced by the Police. Due to the high number of accidents caused by excessive speed, the Police will be particularly vigilant during the driver control week in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.
