The MBC Syntainics basketball team pulled off a surprise on Sunday. The club from Weißenfels won 81:78 (49:38) at MHP Riesen Ludwigsburg, who are currently fourth in the table, and so celebrated another success after two recent defeats. Jayvon Graves (17), Desure Buie, Silas Melson (11 each) and Jaren Lewis (10) scored the most points for the home side. The MBC are now four points clear of the relegation zone.
The club from Central Germany missed the first five minutes, but then got into its stride. With a 12:2 run, the club from Weißenfels turned a 4:11 deficit (5th minute) into a 16:13 lead (9th minute) and stretched it to 41:27 by the 17th minute. However, Ludwigsburg fought its way back, tied the scores at 61:61 at the end of the third quarter and went 69:65 in front with seven minutes remaining.
The visitors produced an 11:2 run to make it 76:71 in the 37th minute and saved their narrow lead over time. The club from Weißenfels benefited first and foremost from its better shooting percentage from the floor (48:37 percent) and its superiority under the boards (49:34 rebounds). The visitors were thus able to make up for the 23 turnovers they conceded.
