- Maza assists Hertha in overcoming a 2-0 deficit against Regensburg.
In the 2. Bundesliga, Hertha BSC managed their initial victory of the season, outsmarting newly-promoted SSV Jahn Regensburg 2-0 at the Olympic Stadium. Ibrahim Maza (90') and Florian Niederlechner (90+6) were the goalscorers, securing the win following a one-man edge after Mansour Ouro-Tagba of Regensburg was dismissed for a foul on Niederlechner (76').
Hertha escaped the calamitous beginning from last season and are presently on four points from three matches. As for Regensburg, who had notable success over Bundesliga side Bochum in the DFB-Pokal, this marked their second league loss.
Hertha's impressive beginning showed signs of fading
Trainer Christian Fiél granted a first appearance to summer recruit Luca Schuler in lieu of Haris Tabakovic's departure. With a fantastic opportunity, Schuler could have made an instant impression but instead shot high over the bar (5'). Hertha commenced the match with good energy, playing well and pressing high, but their enthusiasm decayed as the minutes ticked by. Regensburg took advantage of Hertha's errors, with Dominik Kother almost scoring following a brilliant solo run (21') and Christian Kühlwetter almost netting from distance as a result of a Hertha blunder (36').
The second half was marked by both teams finding it tough to generate clear opportunities. Despite Fiél's substitutions, it didn't appear to offer much improvement upfront until Maza broke the deadlock with a precise finish after a delightful team effort.
Hertha's second Bundesliga victory this season was against SSV Jahn Regensburg, extending their positive start in the league. Despite Regensburg's prior success against Bundesliga team Bochum, they suffered a second league loss in the Second Bundesliga.
