Voting Process - Mayor Kaser of Wedel has been ousted from his position.
The mayor of Wedel, Gernot Kaser, who is non-partisan, was removed from office on Sunday. A total of 10,758 residents voted in favor of this decision, while 4,172 expressed opposition. Kaser had previously tried to delay his potential termination at the Schleswig Administrative Court but the judges could not find any egregious violations of the law committed by the city of Wedel.
On March 28th, the city council of Wedel voted to initiate a dismissal process, with 38 councillors in support and just one dissenter. The necessary threshold for the dismissal was 20% of eligible voters, equating to 5,452 votes.
If verified by the municipal election committee at its scheduled meeting on June 20th, Kaser will be required to take a temporary leave of absence. As per local regulations, a new election for the position must be held within six months.
Prior to his removal, Kaser had acknowledged on his website that he may have made errors during the process of making necessary changes. He stressed the importance of modernizing Wedel in order to maintain independence from the state's supply limitations. In the end, the situation evolved into a battle between municipal politics and Kaser as the elected municipal head.
