Emergencies - Mayor Fetzer fears for missing girl
The mayor of Bingen, Jochen Fetzer (non-party), hopes that the missing two-year-old girl spent the night somewhere warm. "I can't imagine that there's much hope when the temperature is below zero."
The Lauchert river, which is around ten meters wide, is normally a calm river, but is currently in flood. "That makes things even more dramatic. Yesterday we were still talking about a two-year flood. There is significantly more water in the river than usual." The family's home is located in Hitzkofen - a suburb of Bingen - in the immediate vicinity of the river.
Fetzer said that the mood in the village was shocked. The girl's parents are staying with acquaintances outside the community. The family had only been living in the village since last year. The Bingen suburb of Hitzkofen near Sigmaringen on the edge of the Swabian Alb has around 400 inhabitants. "Everyone knows everyone here," said Fetzer.
The toddler has been missing since Sunday evening. An extensive search is underway.

The search for the missing girl is taking place in the flooded Lauchert river, which is currently in emergency flood conditions in Bingen, Baden-Württemberg. This is particularly challenging for the emergency services due to the high water levels and the wide span of the river. The girl's home is located in Hitzkofen, a small village in Bingen known for its tight-knit community, where everyone knows each other.
