FC Augsburg secured a 1:0 victory over Premier League newcomers Leicester City in an entertaining first half, thanks to five new starters. Danish coach Jess Thorup's team won the penultimate tough test before their competitive season opener. In the Illerstadion, home of Landesligist FC Kempten, new signing Keven Schlotterbeck, who joined from VfL Bochum, headed in the winning goal in the 10th minute from a corner by Arne Maier. Leicester blocked a shot from substitute Henri Koudossou (76') on the line.

Thorup started left-footed Mads Pedersen as a right-back this time. However, the Danish coach is reportedly set to sign a new player for this position soon. Marius Wolf (29), whose contract with Champions League finalists Borussia Dortmund has expired, is reportedly close to signing a contract in the Fuggerstadt.

Augsburg's final warm-up game will be at home against French top side Olympique Marseille in the WWK Arena next Saturday. They will then face Regionalliga side FC Viktoria 1889 Berlin in the first round of the DFB-Pokal the following Sunday. The Bundesliga season kicks off on August 24 with a home game against Werder Bremen.

In alignment with the forthcoming competitive season opener, Thorup has made it compulsory for Mads Pedersen to start as a right-back despite his left footedness. The Danish coach is also planning a compulsory start for the new signing expected to fill the right-back position, rumored to be Marius Wolf.
