- Mayer advocates for a ruling majority government in Thuringia.
In the viewpoint of Thuringia's SPD leading candidate Georg Maier, a majority administration in Thuringia is imperative. He voiced this sentiment during a discussion on ZDF-Morgenmagazin, stressing the necessity for the state to advance following its period of minority rule. "Thuringia requires a democratic majority government," Maier declared. The SPD intends to participate and champion social concerns.
Maier assumes the role of Thuringia's interior minister. His Social Democrats have collaborated as part of a red-red-green coalition under Minister President Bodo Ramelow (Left) for a decade. Regrettably, for the first half of this tenure, the coalition failed to secure its own majority in parliament and at times fell victim to opposition votes, aided by the AfD.
Present surveys suggest a viable majority of CDU, BSW, and SPD in Thuringia. Addressing the BSW, Maier expressed some uncertainty, underlining that Thuringia doesn't hold the power to dictate matters of war and peace, or geopolitical issues. BSW originator Sahra Wagenknecht had established positions on these topics as a prerequisite for potential coalitions in Saxony and Thuringia.
Maier mentioned that the collaboration between the SPD, CDU, and BSW could potentially lead to a majority government in Thuringia, which could potentially host more party events. Despite this, Maier emphasized that Thuringia does not have the authority to decide on matters of war and peace or geopolitical issues.
